Cleveland Cornhole Update

Hello Cleveland Cornhole players, wanted to send out an email to the players to provide an update on what to expect with regards to Cleveland Cornhole leagues/tournaments this Fall and possibly beyond…

Obviously COVID has thrown a wrench into most of our lives and this has filtered down to cornhole for sure. We had to cancel the winter league 2/3 of the way through it and cancel the Spring league completely. All events were cancelled from mid-March until June and even then it was just one event in June and one in July. We lost a friend to this virus who used to play in our leagues and events (Bill Hilbish) and with that news I shut down again.

With all of that all leagues are still on hold indefinitely. I am simply not comfortable with having a league in these conditions for many reasons, a couple of which include:
1 – packing 120 people into the gym twice a week, every week, with limited to no social distancing just won’t go well.

2 – if we start a league again and then the governor shuts it down or we have a breakout of cases I do not want to go through the refund process all over again and not finish a session

So leagues are on hold. If I have money of yours and you prefer to get it now, just let me know and I will send it to you. Otherwise I will continue to hold it until we return. Once I decide to start leagues back up I will send another email and post on the website/facebook with registration opening roughly one month before we start.

I am not completely against the idea of a weekly blind draw as players would not have to commit to it every week and can skip it if not feeling well. If that happens it would likely be on Monday’s and limited to no more than 80 people each week with online registration, first come first served. If you have thoughts on that, let me know.

As far as tournaments I am planning on having the ACL Monthly Regionals once a month starting in September. I’m hoping to have it at a place where we can distance as much as possible and have fresh air, but still working it out. Other than that I am not planning on running any other events that aren’t already scheduled (I have one up in the air working with a group in Akron) until all of this is more under control.

Thank you all for your support and understanding.

Don’t hesitate to respond if you have any questions,
Dave

It’s Time… For a New Logo

As I head into my 10th year of running cornhole events, I think it’s time for a new logo.

My logo’s over the years
In 2010 I started a cornhole website called CornholeBlogger which tracked all of the events I went to play in as well as to share my thoughts and get players thoughts on how to make cornhole better. This was my logo.

In 2012 I started the Ohio Cornhole Tour where I traveled around Ohio and ran blind draws where the winner of each tournament qualified for the Ohio Cornhole Tour Championships.

2020 ACL World Championship Results!

What a crazy week in Rock Hill South Carolina. 6 days of cornhole is a lot, but the TV/Digital coverage was amazing, the venue was stunning and the players did pretty well with their masks. When it was all said and done over $256,000 was won!

This link has all of the results.

Here’s a quick summary of how all of our Cleveland Cornhole ACL players did at the event. Sorry if I missed anyone…

All Events On Hold

I have decided to shut down all Cleveland Cornhole until at least mid-September. Anything that I had scheduled through mid-September has either been cancelled or someone else will be running the event. This includes Fall leagues which I had hoped to start up in September. Those are on-hold until further notice. When a start-up date for league is decided it will be announced a minimum of one month in advance of actually starting. I hope everyone stays safe.

ACL July 2020 Results

Well the venue was very cool, but the event didn’t go as hoped. I apologize to all of you who did not have a good experience. With that, I am temporarily shutting down all Cleveland Cornhole events until things start getting back to normal (minimum 2 months). It’s quite likely that we will NOT start the new season of ACL Regionals in September. Also all Fall leagues that I had hoped to begin in September are on hold as well.

I would like to congratulate all of our winners from Saturday. Our 9 winners will get to bring a guest and sit in a suite at a future Cavs game and thanks to everyone for their support during the 2019-2020 season.

Full Results Below – all prize money will be sent as soon as the ACL sends me the entry fee money.

ACL June 2020 Results

So it was nice to see many of the Cleveland Cornhole players again yesterday. By design the regional was smaller than it was back in February and we ended up with 103 people. Thanks to everyone who came out! Special thanks to Dennis and Denni Fortney for their help, Garrett Cain for allowing us to use the gym and everyone who also helped set-up or clean-up the equipment.

We will be having one more regional to finish up the “2019-2020 ACL Season” in July. It will be July 18th, location TBD… hopefully the location will be set this week and is expected to have Intermediate, Competitive and Advanced included.

Here are the June results.

June (103 Unique Players)
Advanced Singles

1 Trey Burchfield (7028)
2 Tom Walter (22232)
3 Timmy Jonas (25495)
4 Jeff Reynolds (30097)

ACL Regional June 13th?

Hello Cornhole players, I hope all is well. I’ve had an ACL Regional on the schedule for June 13th since February, but obviously I expected it to be cancelled. With Ohio opening back up and the ACL now allowing regionals again, it is allowed with safety precautions.

So I’m trying to see what the interest would be. Please vote below.

  • Since I am not ready to have a 150+ player event (for safety reasons) this one would be Advanced level only. Likely Blind Draw, Doubles and then Singles. Advanced means technically anyone can play.
  • 64 players max per tournament (doubt this will be an issue)
  • This would likely be held at Garrett Cain’s place in Brunswick/Hinkley and beer would be available for purchase.
  • His facility does not have air conditioning, but he does have many industrial type doors that would be open so it would have a bit of an outdoor feel and could be quite warm potentially, but it would be covered.
  • People could sit outside which would help us all social distance. Some indoor space would be available to sit as well.
  • Boards will be separated further than normal to social distance. Probably have around 10 sets set-up if needed.
  • Registration would all be done via the ACL website.

Thoughts? I realize there is also a Pro Invitational near Philly that day, so that might impact some of you as well.

Would You Play on June 13th?

  • Yes (68%, 43 Votes)
  • No - I don't want to play Advanced, but Might Play a Future One Which Has Lower Levels (21%, 13 Votes)
  • No - Not Available (8%, 5 Votes)
  • No - I don't feel it's safe (3%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 63

USAC Club Championships

USA Cornhole is having a “Club” event. Each team will consist of 8 players, 2 of which must be women and at least 5 of the 8 must all come from the same “Club” or area. Top 2 teams in the Club Championships will get to play the finals on TV! Yes the preliminary rounds will be done virtually.

Entry fee is just $80/team (of 8), but you must also be a USAC member ($60 covers the year) to play. More details in the links below. If interested in forming a team or entering a team, please let me know.

The Event That Almost, But Never Was…

Like many of you, I have found myself with a lot more time on my hands. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I look forward to more family time, just not the idea of never leaving my house.

So in this free time I’ve had some time to reflect on cornhole and the event that almost, but never was. There’s no doubt I have a bit more detail in this write-up than you probably care to read, but hey, like I said, I had some time.

This is the cover of the ACL Cleveland National Brochure that very few players (if any) received. I believe one to two thousand of these were printed, just one more thing the ACL did for their players to make this a great event.

My Background
I started playing cornhole back in 2008. My goal at first was to win a game in the new league I joined, but quickly changed Read More…
